Ridiculous is the amount of time it's been since we've posted something on our blog.
I blame Elizabeth.
She says if it bothers me, I should post something.
It bothers me, so here you go.
I finished teaching earlier this month. I told the faculty back in April that I wasn't coming back next year. It was fun to write a resignation letter, stating that I would be retiring from the teaching profession after my first year. All of my kids, however, were clueless until the last day of class. Throughout the year they always asked, "Sir, [that's right, they called me Sir] what are you going to teach next year?" or "Sir, are you ever going back to school?" I dodged the questions pretty stealthily. I didn't want them to have any excuses to slack off. I was one of those 'all business' teachers. It was fun to see their reactions when I told them I was moving to Arizona to go to medical school.
I really liked teaching. Teaching in a school where almost 100% of the kids are considered "at-risk" has given me a lot of new perspective and insight. I'll never forget those kids and what they and the faculty taught me. Seriously, one of the best things that has ever happened to us was not getting into medical school last year, taking a chance, and moving to San Antonio. I know that may sound lame, but really it worked out so well that I'm confident it was supposed to happen. We've been able to spend a lot of time with Elizabeth's family and have grown pretty close to them. We'll miss them a lot, and hope they come visit us in the Grand Canyon State sometime.
Teaching is great, too, because you get paid to do nothing for 3 months. I sit at home all day, and the paycheck still shows up in the mail.
So far this summer we've been to Sea World, took a trip to Dallas, watched a lot of World Cup, and played a lot of Xbox. We swim in our complex's pool at least two or three times a week. William is becoming quite the little swimmer. Now we just throw on his floaties and he does his own thing. He can't really get anywhere while he's out floating in the middle of the pool, but the smile on his face shows that he's still having a good time. Not bad for a 21-month-old. Maybe with a little help from his professional swim coach cousin this summer, he can move around the water a little better. Grandma and Grandpa are excited to watch him go to work in their pool in Vegas.
William is starting to string words together, too. He's pretty good with his whole name, and can do other combos like 'world cup', 'soccer ball', and my personal favorite, 'meat balls'. Today for Father's Day Elizabeth got me a tool box, which included a mini tool box that I gave to William. He immediately starting lugging it around saying 'work', like he was going to work. Seriously the cutest kid in the world. Being a dad is the funnest thing ever.
We pack up the 26 foot Penske on July 3rd. A 16 hour drive later, we'll be home sweet home in Surprise, Arizona. Orientation is 3 August. Bring on the white coat, baby.
