I'd been kind of bugging Trent for a couple of days to put the carseat in the car with me, because last time I was at BabiesRUs I saw that they were going to have a free carseat safety inspection, and I really wanted to do do it. So yesterday we went out to the car and installed our brand new carseat. We decided to use the latch system, where you hook these latches onto little anchors hidden in the seat of the car. Trent pulled the thing as tight as it would go. (We also put it in the middle position, because that's supposed to be the safest place when side collisions occur).
So I drove over to BabiesRUs (looked around inside a bit) and had them inspect our installation job. Turns out, if we had checked our car's owner's manual, we would have seen that you're only supposed to use the latch system on one of the side seats, not the center one. But, they guy checking it out said we could leave it in the middle if we used the seatbelt to hook it in. So he showed me how to do it and how to make sure it was tight enough, and level, as well has how to check and make sure the baby is strapped in tight enough in the carseat. It was very helpful!
I was going to say, "I hope people don't think we're going to be bad parents because we can't even install a carseat correctly" but then I realized, that the whole purpose in us doing it yesterday was to get it inspected by certified carseat safety specialists...and I don't think bad parents would go to that much trouble. So we're good! Anyway, it is nice to know that it's in there properly now and our baby should be safe and sound.
Speaking of babies (what else do we speak of these days anyway?)... I had a baby shower last night! The girls I'm lucky enough to work with in our ward's primary presidency threw it for me, and it was so fun! My friends from the ward all came and gave me some great gifts! Well, I guess they were really for the baby...but opening presents is fun either way! Lots of cute little outfits (including a Halloween one and a BYU onesie, just what we needed!), a diaper cake with all kinds of fun things in it, a homemade blanket and homemade bunny toy, Tide-to-go pen, and a mirror to put in the backseat so we can see the baby from the front were some of the things we got! Not to mention the amazing desserts the girls made for the shower. It was nice to chat with a few friends that I don't always have a chance to talk with outside of church. And I'm having another shower on Saturday!! I think it's so nice when people go out of their way to throw you a party! Who wouldn't love that.
Unfornately Saturday is going to be super busy, though. Trent works in the morning, then my shower is in the afternoon, then there's the Relief Society broadcast. Normally that schedule would be no big deal, but it's also Trent's birthday! So, luckily he doesn't work Friday night, so we'll have a birthday date night where we'll go eat out and maybe go to the driving range or something. So, then we may do cake Saturday night, and Trent's birthday ham and cheese potatoes Sunday. We still have to work out the details. Anyway, this week is a fun one for me. But of course there are still a million things I need to do to be ready for the baby to come, so I will stop writing, and hopefully (finally) finish the curtains today before I go to work.

This post makes me miss you so much. I wish we were there very much to celebrate all of your exciting things, especially the baby. BTW, have a name yet? Oh, and way to go with the carseat inspection. It really bothers me when people do it wrong (I'm pretty sure mine's in right? I read the instructions at least.)
BYU onesie? Poor kid will never have a chance...
Holy crap. We had our infant car seat in the middle seat with the latch system for the whole year. Now he is in the convertible (front-facing) car seat using the latch system in the middle seat. Does it depend on the car or is that for all cars?? AAH
It probably just depends on the car.... The guy who did the inspection looked it up in our car's owner's manual, and it said to only use the latch system on the side. I'd say just see what your car's manual says.

Don't worry, Gram counter-acted by sending a UNLV onesie.
