Here's William with the still-boxed-up kitchen stuff. We finally started putting stuff in the kitchen last night. So far we've got dishes in there. I need to buy more shelf liner. We haven't seen any live bugs in there for a while (knock on wood) but it still makes me slightly anxious to put my stuff in there...but I'm sure I'll love having my dining room back.
Speaking of apartment progress... I finally emailed the manager of our complex last night about some things we've been needing fixed. When we moved in they had us fill out an apartment inventory form which serves 2 purposes: so they won't charge us for things that were already messed up when we moved in and so they can fix things that need to be fixed. I turned it in on July 31st (2 days after we moved in) and made it a point to sit down with the girl in the office and go over exactly what we needed fixed (because it was a lot). Well......weeks went by and NOTHING got done. At all. Except for the pest control people coming on a weekly basis ever since we moved in. Anyway, so I emailed the manager a lengthy and detailed email (thanking her for sending the pest control people) and asking when we would be getting things fixed, describing the major problems and explaining why they were an inconvenience to us.
So, this morning while my visiting teachers were over the doorbell rings and it's the maintenance man! He explained to me that Jorge who was in charge of fixing things from new move-in's inventory sheets recently got fired because he was just hiding the sheets in a drawer without doing any of the work. Apparently we're not the only ones it's happened to. So today...we got a new digital thermostat, new rollers on the sliding glass door (it actually slides now!), a baseboard on the downstairs bathroom vanity (it was missing when we moved in), he fixed the locks on our front door and storage room that didn't work, fixed the leaky faucets in William's bathroom, and fixed the plastic thingy in our skylight so that it would lay down flat. So I'm sure glad I sent that email!
This is how we feel about that:
William is 11 months old as of yesterday! What the heck?! We're planning on some kind of cupcakes from my Hello, Cupcake book, having any family over who wants to come, and maybe swimming in the complex pool (I hear you can swim till October here...) for his birthday next month! He's just a doll. The picture below shows Will eating his new favorite food...macaroni and cheese. Today I was holding the container of leftover mac and cheese and apparently I wasn't shoveling it onto his tray fast enough because he kept trying to grab handfuls out of the container. It was pretty amusing.
