Setting: William is playing games on the ipod and figures out how to turn Sponge Bob on on Netflix.
William: Mom! I'm watching Sponge Bob!
Me: I don't really want you to watch Sponge Bob. It's not very nice.
W: (pause) Sponge Bob is a bad guy?
Me: Well, he's not really a bad guy... He's...okay.
W: (pause) He's not feeling sick anymore? (because if you're not feeling sick, you are 'okay', right?)
End scene.
This boy makes me laugh. He makes those wonderful little intuitive leaps all the time, and gosh, I just love it. He's always making me laugh.
By the way, I won't judge you if you watch Sponge Bob... Since William loves watching shows so much (and admittedly, we watch too much tv) I try to keep what he watches in the general realm of 'educational' shows...pretty sure Sponge Bob doesn't fit that bill. I try not to let him watch shows that have too much attitude in them, which a lot do!
Apparently I'm not doing that great of a job, as this next scene will demonstrate.
Setting: Mom trying to load the kids into the car and head to playgroup. Baby's buckled in, William is running around on the driveway.
Me: Okay Bud, go get in the car.
William: (stomping around and folding arms across chest) It's not fair!
Me: What? (he's never said that before, and I'm trying to think if we've said that/acted like that in front of him... pretty sure that's a no)
W: It's not fair!
Me: You don't even know what that means; go get in the car so we can go to playgroup!
William runs into the garage away from mom and stands with arms folded making a 'mean face'. I pick him up and carry him to the car and buckle him in.
W: I'm a bad guy. I folded my arms in the garage.
I tell William he is a good guy and explain that bad guys aren't happy and he should be a good guy so he can be happy.
W: Oh.
End scene.
Good golly. At least he is pretty open to my explanations at this point. This boy keeps us on our toes.

Haha, I love this. This age is so funny. They have the funniest misconceptions. I think your boys are starting to look a LOT like brothers.
And by the way- absolutely no sponge bob in my house. Or thomas the train. Or anything else I find mildly annoying or potty humoresque. I try to stick to educational as well, but I also pretend we don't get nickelodeon or cartoon network just because the characters bother me ;)
